The story is of four dissimilar women in post - World War I England who leave dreary, rainy London to go on a holiday to a secluded coastal villa in Italy.  Two housewives, who belong to the same church but have never spoken, become acquainted.  Each in their own way is suffering through an empty marriage and faces the prospect of a lonely and almost secluded middle age.  After seeing a newspaper ad for a villa for rent, the women set about finding two other ladies to share expenses.  Joined by a young socialite and an elderly dowager, the four are able to find rejuvenation in the tranquil beauty of their surroundings.

Enchanted April was a 2003 Tony Award nominee for Best Play.  Prior to its run on Broadway, it was a movie made in 1992.
