THE SHOW

In this Tony® Award-winning musical, a die-hard musical fan known only as The Man in the Chair puts on the record of his favorite musical, The Drowsy Chaperone to overcome his feelings of “non-specific sadness.” As the turntable spins, the musical comes to life in his living room, telling the tale of a Hollywood actress who is giving up the screen to marry her true love. Along the way we meet a wealthy dowager, her faithful butler, a frustrated theater impresario, a dizzy chorine, gangsters posing as pastry chefs, a befuddled bridegroom, an anxious best man, a Latin lothario, and, above all, the Drowsy (in other words, tipsy) Chaperone. As the record plays, The Man in the Chair gives us the story and the backstory, and boldly addresses the great unspoken desire in all of our hearts: to be entertained. If you’ve ever sat in a dark theatre and thought, “Please let it be good,” this is the show for you!
