The Play

Based on the Emmy Award-winning 1970s educational animated TV series, Schoolhouse Rock Live! uses the familiar songs from the cartoons to teach grammar, math, science, history, social studies and political science while telling the story of Tom, a young teacher nervously anticipating his first day on the job.
Schoolhouse Rock Live! Junior brings the magic of Schoolhouse Rock to the stage. From the opening notes of “A Noun Is a Person, Place or Thing,” through the rousing closer, “Interjections!” Schoolhouse Rock Live! Junior delivers hit after hit to the delight of audiences and performers of all ages.

The Cast

TOM – The idealistic young teacher, the hero of the story. He is amiable, likable, and charming. While he does not sing very much solo music, Tom should be played by a strong actor.
GEORGE – A marvelous character role. Should be played by a good singer and a great character actor. He is caring and in control. Songs: “Three Is a Magic Number,” “Just a Bill.”
DORI – Silly, goofy character who should be played by a strong singer. Songs: “A Noun Is a Person, Place or Thing,” “The Preamble.”
JOE – The cool guy. He is laid back and fun loving; Song: “Conjunction Junction.”
SHULIE – The ingenue character. Should be a strong singer and a likable character actor. She is sweet and genuine. Songs: “Unpack Your Adjectives” and “Interplanet Janet.”
DINA – The mature character. Should be played by a strong singer with the ability to sing harmony. She is thoughtful and grounded. Songs: “Interjections,” “Unpack Your Adjectives.”
CHOIR – Dance and sing ensemble singing parts throughout the show.
