Today’s rehearsal for A Little Night Music was frustrating. We still can’t get on the stage because of the construction of set pieces, the work on the drops, etc. There is a huge amount of things to build and paint and, while things are progressing nicely, they are going slowly. Keep at it guys. Your work’s appreciated.

A number of the actors were absent and Director Harold Durkiewicz was reading in. At one point or another he played Carl-Magnus, Charlotte, and even Fredrika, who was temporarily out in the hall. Harold is an excellent actor and it’s fun to watch him reading in, especially when he’s reading for a woman.

Music Director Paul Abbott had a conflict, so the music was all recorded. Cuing the CDs is time consuming. Some of the music is difficult and it’s worrisome not to be able to fix the sticky parts.

We did have some fun with “head shots.” At the Guild, we put up a lobby display of photos of the people working in each show. Technical Director James Mayne set up a portrait studio in the basement and served as cameraman. Lots of fun with the teasing remarks that flew back and forth from James and those watching the proceedings. The attached photo shows James behind the camera and Jade Reynolds (Fredrika) posing.

Oh, and at one point during prior to the rehearsal, Michael Suchyta (Henrik) was practicing his cello and Justine Moore, the daughter of Guild members Amy and Richard Moore, was sitting right in front of him with her hands over her ears. I couldn’t get her to do it again.

Back at it tomorrow. Next Sunday is Tech Sunday. Onward and Upward as Leroux is fond of saying.
